Photographer Takes Pictures Of Black Cats To Help Them Get Adopted

Black cats have the lowest cat adoption rates and the highest euthanasia rates, all because of something that isn’t their fault. One of the reasons could be that superstitions perpetuated through movies and books have stigmatized them as being “bad luck” or “wicked.” So, they are always on the roster of Halloween spooky emblems, and people don’t like them.

In order to help these furry felines, an animal advocate and pet photographer named Casey Elise Christopher in Los Angeles decided to use animal photography to help them get adopted. She started by snapping adorable portraits of black cats at the shelter to highlight the beauty and personality that they have.

For this Halloween-themed series, Casey photographed black cats against a simple and black background, allowing their beauty and their adorable personalities to be on full display. The cats featured on this list are from West Los Angeles Animal Services and Milo’s Sanctuary.

“I wanted to show that it is possible to get great pictures of these adorable cats. I hope my photos inspire people to adopt such beautiful cats and to volunteer for their local animal shelter,” Casey said.
