Abandoned Puppy Bravely Protects His Kitty Sister From Rescuers, Now They Are Living Inseparably At Same Shelter

Some people think: “Cats and dogs can never be good friends due to their opposite characteristics”. However, I don’t completely agree. Sometimes, cats and dogs growing up together can be tolerant, supportive, and compassionate toward the other side. This brother and sister proved to us that cats and dogs can definitely become instant friends.

2-year-old chihuahua Gomes and his 10-month-old kitten Morticia were abandoned together in a quiet field. When a Samaritan spotted the fur-babies, he was heartbroken to see the small chihuahua protecting the young kitten insight his arms. With his post on Facebook, he found help from two other fans in the animal lover community, Angela and her daughter, who appeared at the field and rescued the two poor souls.

Because there were some possible escape routes, the rescue team closed them before approaching frightened Gomes and Morticia. As they noticed, Gomes was always at ‘defense’ mode, willing to bark and growl if the rescue team was about to come closer. While the team was trying to reassure those scared souls, Animal Control stepped in to support them. It was a complicated rescue, but the babies were finally in good hands.

Yet, that was not the end of their story. Despite many efforts to find the Gomes and Morticia’s owner, no one came to claim their pets. Also, the babies were not microchipped, so it was impossible to find their owner. Finding foster homes for the pets, the rescue team needed to make a tough decision. While it was required that the cat and dog stay at different care homes, the rescuers decided to send them to the same shelter. They didn’t want to see the two bonded souls live apart from each other. They knew the babies can be comfortable, safe, and happy to stay together. They also hoped that they would be adopted at the same time.

“Paired animals tend to have a significantly longer length of stay in a shelter setting. However, separating a strongly bonded pair can lead to serious problems. The animals may demonstrate anxiety by pacing, winning, destructive behavior, loss of appetite, and general shutting down. It is better they are kept together.”, shared Adturgur (the Director of the shelter where Gomes and Morticia stayed).

These two adorable friends are now living happily together. They have grown up into healthy boys and girls and have been neutered. Follow Happy Paws to know more heartbreaking rescue stories! Thank the rescuers and anyone involved in this meaningful rescue mission!
