Except for the Prionailurus viverrinus (fishing cat) specie, most cats are not very fond of water. The first reason is because cats cannot regulate their own temperature effectively when they are wet. Also, the wet fur weighs them down. Cats are known to bath themselves with their tongue, so they are not adapted to showering. Nevertheless, they can get really dirty and need our help to clean themselves sometimes.
