Adorable Footage Of Beluga Whales Swimming Right Up To The Glass To Say Hello To Penguin Visitors

We all have a strong sense of curiosity. This also happens with animals, guys. Let’s take these Beluga whales as an example! They are especially fascinated by the penguins who come to visit them when their aquarium closes due to the pandemic. These marine creatures make an adorable reaction: swim right to the class to say hello to their neighbors.

These cute moments were captured by the staff of the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, Illinois. The belugas showed a special interest in a rockhopper penguin named Wellington. This was the very first time they had seen a real penguin at such a close distance. Awesome!

The belugas couldn’t wait to swim over Wellington to meet him. They kept their eyes on their neighbors and got interested in each of her movements.

Regarding the penguins, they were also excited to see giant friends. They stood in front of the glass and watched their neighbors coming to greet them.

“While Chicago’s Shedd Aquarium may be closed to the public, animal care staff and veterinarians are onsite 24/7,” a spokesperson told Insider. “Without guests in the building, caretakers are getting creative in how they provide enrichment to animals — introducing new experiences, activities, foods, and more to keep them active, encourage them to explore, problem-solve, and express natural behaviors.”

This is an exciting pop-up field trip! The two can never encounter each other in the wild throughout their whole lives. The reason is understandable: Beluga whales reside in the Arctic Ocean in the Northern Hemisphere while penguins inhabit the Southern Hemisphere.
