Fathers play an important role in all aspects of their children’s lives that cannot be filled by anyone else. Therefore, everyone agrees that there is nothing more wonderful than the love of a father. If you don’t believe and want to know how great a father is, don’t look any further because this post is just for you. The touching story of a father and her blind daughter below will be one of the perfect examples you shouldn’t miss.
Meet David Hyche, a bomb technician who works at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF). Not only is he a special agent, but he is also a great father of a beautiful girl named Rachel. Sadly, his little daughter turned blind when she was just four months old. For Rachel and her family, it was a nightmare that they never thought they could overcome.
At first, Hyche was scared that his little daughter would never have a normal life like other kids. However, she soon proved that he was wrong and showed him that she was able to do things herself. Despite being blind, Rachel never loses her independence and confidence. Therefore, when she joined in a church Easter egg hunt, she felt down as she couldn’t find them and people had to guide her towards an egg.
“With my daughter, one of her first phrases was, ‘I do it myself.’ She wants to do it by herself and most of these kids want to do that too,” he said.
Knowing that his blind daughter would want something better, Hyche came up with an idea to help her. He found a man who was making beeping eggs, but he decided to tweak the design a bit. He used his expertise to create eggs equipped with beepers, switches and batteries that his blind daughter could find them through sound. Thanks to his idea, Rachel can join an Easter egg hunt for blind children – using beeping eggs.
At a bomb convention, he showed off his beeping eggs, and they caught the attention of the IABTI, International Association of Bomb Technicians and Investigators. The association thought it would be a great initiative for their members and decided to create the Rachel Project to build the eggs for other children with visual impairments.
The beeping eggs are then donated to schools, churches, and other organizations for visually children so they can have their own Easter egg hunts. Teachers are also using them to help blind children learn location skills.
What a cool dad! Father’s Day is almost here, please share this awesome dad and the Rachel Project with your family and friends!
