30 Lb Chonk Cat Gets New Owners Who Are Willing To Help Her Get Healthy

Meet Lasagna, a 5-year-old moggy cat who has recently become internet famous for her cuteness and her chunky body.

Lasagna the poor cat was abandoned in Hunting Park, near the ACCT Philly shelter operating in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. When she was rescued, she weighed 13.15 kilos. This is the average weight of a three-year-old toddler or a small pit bull dog.

Nobody knows how Lasagna grew to be so big, but the most common cause is too much food and not enough exercise. The shelter decided to name her Lasagna – after the favorite dish of Garfield, the famous orange tabby cat from Jim Davis’ comic strips.

The shelter explained that Lasagna is a very sweet, friendly, and confident cat who enjoys belly rubs.

Lasagna’s weight is nearly 4 times more than what’s considered healthy. If left untreated, this might lead to health problems, like heart disease and diabetes. For this reason, as soon as the shelter took her in, they put her on a special diet to control her weight and help her get fit.

Because of her weight, she can’t groom herself unassisted. For this reason, if she was to be adopted, it would have to be by someone willing to help her get healthy.

Lasagna’s pictures and video were soon shared on ACCT Philly’s Twitter and Facebook in the hope that someone would adopt or foster her. These posts went viral, garnering thousands of likes and views.

Given this, it wasn’t long until Lasagna was adopted by a lovely family. The Hammer family from New Jersey will make sure to care for her and help her lose the weight.

It is good that Lasagna has a forever home and loving owners who will do everything they can to make her happy and healthy. We are happy to know that she is striving for a healthy life by getting fit with the help of her new family.

Here’s how people reacted to Lasagna’s story

“May the new owner help this baby lose the weight. It’s not healthy for any cat. Bless her heart.”

“I hope they are familiar with the FB cat Bronson who went from 33lbs to (now) 19.7 and still working on it. It has taken 2.5 years I think, but he is a changed cat. Good luck, Lasagne!”

“She deserves so much better Lasagna!”
