Animals should live the life they deserve. However, some have to struggle for their survival second by second. They are neglected and abused by their cold-blooded owners. Their physical and mental health worsens, depriving their thirst to live. Some can wait until they are rescued but some aren’t. This scene hurts, humans.

Thankfully, Heidi the pretty pony in this story doesn’t meet this end. The little girl was found in the most appalling condition, which meant she was just saved in time.
The pony looked almost lifeless at a building site in East Durham, England. Her body was seen breathing. This was the only sign that showed she was still alive.

When the rescuers from Here 4 Horses Equine Charity came to the site, they were horrified at the baby horse’s condition. This was one of the most severe cases of neglect and cruelty they’d ever seen.

They even encountered the knacker man whom the owner called to collect Heidi’s body. That cruel owner rejected the fragile animal. The rescue team decided to act immediately. They thought Heidi deserved another chance.

“The decision was made to give her a chance and it took five people to lift her to her feet,” said the spokesperson of Here 4 Horses Equine Charity.
The rescuers brought Heidi with them and gave her emergency treatment. The poor pony was critically ill. She couldn’t even stand on her own.

“The early days were touch and go, as we dealt with her serious weakness and such a low blood protein level that a plasma transfusion was required,” said Wendy, horse welfare and education specialist who started the charity.
Heidi was immediately placed on a drip for blood transfusion. The pony was emaciated, so this was the only way to help her revive. Luckily, she received several liters of blood donated by healthy horses.

Amazingly, this Heidi proves she is a born fighter. Despite the slow improvement, Heidi still transforms into a playful and energetic girl. Her hair grew back and she regained weight. The tough past went on, the pony is currently living in love and kindness of the staff at the zoo.
