If there are only 3 seconds to choose which is the most important in life, many people may say “family”. The old man Ron Moyer was the same. Living for more than seven decades, Ron knows that family is everything to him. And his granddaughter means the world.
Sweetheart Payton was in her twenties, and she was going to marry a loving man soon. Ron, therefore, dreamt of walking his beloved grandchild down the aisle on her wedding day. However, like the tragedy that comes to elderly people, Ron was diagnosed to have mental deterioration that affected his memory. The family sent him to a nursing home where doctors and carers stayed up all day and night to provide him needed help.
Living apart from her grandchild, Ron missed her every second. He kept asking the same question to any of his visitors “When do I get to walk my granddaughter down the aisle?” While Payton’s wedding was coming, Ron was not strong enough to attend that important party. Ron’s wife was afraid that his wish might not be done.
The plan for the wedding was already discussed with the National Guard. So it was hard for them to push the nuptials back before Ron’s dementia got more and more intensified. Therefore, a second ceremony was secretly organized by the Moyer family only for Ron, despite many obstacles of social distancing.
Seeing the lovely grandchild in a beautiful wedding dress, the old man couldn’t hold back his tears. The ceremony happened smoothly with the attendance of Ron, Payton, and family members. Ron passed away that week because of dementia, but he had done the most important thing before he went.
