Dogs are called man’s best friends for certain reasons. Most of those reasons come from their faithful and loyal nature as well as their unconditional love for us, but the most important reason is many men truly see their dogs as their best friends no less.
Army specialist Henry Alvarado was one of those compassionate owners, he could do everything for his buddy Dukey – a German shepherd who came to his family when he was only 4 weeks old. The dog had accompanied him through all of his deployments, including Afghanistan and Germany. But as the young military was about to move from Los Angeles to his new base in Alaska with his wife and his dog, something tragic happened. Dukey was hit by a car.
The poor dog was injured really badly and sadly, Henry was unable to pay for the vet bills as well as the needed surgery, and he didn’t have anyone to help take care of Dukey either. He was forced to leave Los Angeles within only several days and to be honest, he feared the worst. Henry did think that his only option was to put down his best friend.
Thankfully, Henry’s mentor contacted The Animal Protectorates and they agreed to help him without a second thought. With the help of Rescue From The Hart, they launched a fundraiser for Dukey’s surgery. The story of Henry and Dukey had touched so many people’s hearts and donations were pouring in.
The surgery was successful, and The Animal Protectorates also managed to find Dukey an amazing foster mama (who happened to be a nurse) to look after him during recovery.
Six weeks later, Dukey was finally strong enough to fly to Alaska to meet his dad again. The sweet dog just couldn’t hold back his excitement when he spotted Henry approaching and both of them were overwhelmed with joy as they hugged each other.
