Rescue Cat Working At Rock Climbing Gym Decides To Give It A Try

Cats are really good at climbing and chasing, but a kitten named Lalah has taken her skills to an entirely new level.

Lalah was once a stray kitten until she was saved from the busy roads and was adopted by the owners of Boulbaka Bouldering Gym, a rock climbing gym near Naha, Okinawa, Japan.

“I decided to shelter her in the gym,” Mitsuru Goan, the gym’s owner, told The Dodo. “Since then, she has been a manager of our facility, saying ‘Meow!’ to visitors every day.”

Goan said that when Lalah was a kitten, she loved to see visitors at the centre scaling the wall and became intrigued by the idea.

The athletic cat often watched the climbers and mimicked their moves. She even jumped on the shelves, climbed up ropes and stepladders to keep in form before she got the confidence to climb the rock wall.

As time passed, the little cat grew bigger every day and was able to reach further up the wall. When she grew more confident in her climbing abilities, she thought it was about time to give it a go. She started to try her paw at actual rock climbing and had reached the top of the rock wall.

“She got the confidence to try,” Goan said. “Then she started to touch those holds on the wall for bouldering — trying to go higher.”

Although she is not received treats for her climbing tricks, people often gather to watch and cheer her on, which seems to be reward enough for her.

When Lalah is not practicing, she is busy resting and getting attention from gym visitors. Mitsuru said that she sometimes jumped into visitors’ bags to take a nap, so he warned, “you need to pay attention not to bring her home with you.”

“She still climbs up the rope up to the ceiling, about 16 feet high, to have a workout,” Goan said. “Maybe she is ready for a new challenge.”

Watch the video of Lalah climbing the rock wall here:

Lalah the climbing kitty

Lalah the climbing kitty:She must have been eager for climbing up to the top before she became proper size to reach to the next hold(colored rocks) while watching people climbing everyday. In the last few weeks, her growth made it possible for it.So,she did it! We never trained her.She just accomplished her desire with no help. She must be happy and proud. We are also very happy and proud of her challenge and achievement!

After being shared on social media, the video of Lalah has since gone viral. People fell in love with the talented feline mountaineer and couldn’t stop saying about him:

“They should have equipped the cat with safety gears just in case the cat accidentally falls,” a person commented.

Another said: “Of course she aced it. She’s a cat being a cat.”

“The way she studies her next move is really cute and funny.”

“There is not anything they can’t do. They crack me up.”
