Do you remember James Bowen, the poor street musician and his friend, the stray cat named Bob? Their great friendship has taken the internet by storm and drawn fans from all over the world. Not only did Bod change James’ life, he inspired the wildly popular book and film A Street Cat Named Bob.
Sadly, there is sad news for Bob’s fans, he passed away on Monday (15th June), at the age of 14.
Hodder & Stoughton, the publisher of the book, announced the sad news, with a heartbreaking statement from author James Bowen on the book’s official Facebook page on Tuesday. His fans were shocked and broken to hear this sad news.
Hodder released a statement: “As James and Bob continued to find fans all over the world, Bob led an incredible life meeting well-wishers at book signings, travelling the world and coping with feline fame. He was an extraordinary cat who will be greatly missed.”
In the past, James had a tough life as he had to battle with drug addiction. His family and friends left him, so he had to live on the streets. He got his food from the trash and try to earn money by busking on the sidewalks.
However, everything changed when he met Bob – the ginger street cat suddenly appeared in his life. You can read more about their story here.
Bowen said: “Bob saved my life. It’s as simple as that. He gave me so much more than companionship. With him at my side, I found a direction and purpose that I’d been missing. The success we achieved together through our books and films was miraculous. He’s met thousands of people, touched millions of lives. There’s never been a cat like him. And never will again. I feel like the light has gone out in my life. I will never forget him.”
The sadness surrounding Bob’s passing has been felt by many across the world. Bob crossed the rainbow bridge and went to heaven, but her spirit will continue to live on through his owner and his fans everywhere. Rest in peace Bob the street cat and the world will miss your sweet face very much!
