Being a stepdad is like walking into an emotional minefield where he has to simultaneously recover from the past, build a new marriage with his wife, and settle into a new family with his wife’s children. Usually, it is not easy to earn the trust and love of the stepdaughter. But you might not believe, this dad and his wife’s daughter have a special bond.
Eleven-year-old HaLeigh from Texas, to celebrate the birthday of her stepfather (Tudy Danielle Trevino), got him a letter that he read out loud, bawling his eyes out with tears of happiness. In the letter, HaLeigh wrote:
“I know your birthday is 13 days away but I am too excited to hold it in… ‘What do you get a man that never wants? I can sit and ponder all day but in the end, I know nothing would make you happier than what I am about to say…
Today 02/01/2018 will be a day we will cherish forever as we grow old… ‘HaLeigh Danielle Abila is now HALEIGH DANIELLE TREVINO! Happy Birthday and Valentines Day”
HaLeigh changed her last name to become a Trevino like her mommy and daddy. That came to the stepfather as a big surprise.
Angel Trevino, HaLeigh’s mother, explained why her kid got along well with her father: “HaLeigh was nine months old when I met my husband. From the first day Tudy met me and my daughter, he has taken in HaLeigh and his two other children and treated all of them like one big happy family.”
In November 2017, Angel intended to change her daughter’s last name and add Tudy to her birth certificate. But a letter was sent to her in December saying that the process couldn’t be completed without court. It was not until after the New Year’s holiday that the problem was fixed and she was able to do it without her husband’s confirmation.
“My kids and I were super blessed to have found this man and become a family with him and every day I thank the good Lord for putting him in our path”, said Angel. Meanwhile, Tudy told the media he got the best gift for his birthday.
